Burdock Root:

Burdock
root is a famous detoxifying agent. Its diuretic effect helps the
kidneys quickly filter impurities from the blood.
Burdock
increases circulation to the skin, helping to detoxify skin tissue. This
purification removes the burden from the kidneys and liver. Burdock also
contains a carbohydrate called inulin, which strengthens the liver.
Burdock's ability to flush impurities from the body has several positive
consequences. It purifies the blood without side effects. When the body
is in balance, indicators of ill health, such as chronic skin problems,
disappear. The detoxification effect relieves acne and boils on the face
and neck. Burdock is also used for skin conditions that result in dry
and scaly skin, such as psoriasis and eczema. This is a key component to
clearing your skin the right way, the Sharkne
way.
The polyacetylenes in burdock inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.
This prevents infections, especially skin infections, cystitis, colds
and flu. Burdock contains copper, iron, manganese, sulfur, biotin, zinc,
iron, amino acids, mucilage, and vitamins B1, B6, B12, and E which also
help prevent acne. This is ingredient is tough on acne,
period.
Dandelion Root:

Herbalists
from all over the world have noted its liver cleansing and skin
detoxifying qualities. Slows down cellular functions making it
effective for conditions of damp heat, such as skin disorders, acne,
boils, and jaundice. Dandelion Root works to improve general health and
clear skin. The root and leaf act on the kidneys as a gentle diuretic,
improving the way kidneys cleanse the blood and recycle nutrients.
Overall, it cleanses the your body of toxins to prevent acne.
Red Clover:
Red clover has many medical properties. It is mainly used for the
treatment of skin disorders such as acne. The flowering heads of red
clover increases the production of urine and bile and improves the blood
circulation for quicker toxin removal. Red clover is used in the
treatment of skin disorders, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Yellow Dock Root:
Yellow Dock is used extensively in the treatment of chronic skin
disorders such as acne. Skin conditions attributed to toxic metabolites
from poor digestion and poor liver function are cured by yellow dock.
This liver-strengthening and purging effect can be helpful with the
causes of problems such as psoriasis, acne, and hives. Yellow dock
contains several antioxidants that cleanse the blood of impurities.
Yellow Dock's properties are of much value when dealing with ulcerations
of mucous surfaces or diseases of the skin resulting from impure blood.
Neem:
Neem has strong health maintaining properties. It has been used as a
tonic and astringent that promotes wound healing. Neem's traditional use
is based on its detoxifying benefits that help maintain healthy
circulatory, digestive, respiratory and urinary systems. It is used for
external applications in skin diseases. Neem extracts possess
antidiabetic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. One of the most
powerful blood purifiers and detoxifiers in Ayurvedic usage, Neem is
often used to maintain healthy skin. There is plenty of scientific
backup for Neem's immune enhancement properties. Scientific studies
indicate that Neem boosts the immune system by energizing lymphocytes
cells to respond to infection and other challenges to the body's
immunity
.Overall,
Neem kills the bacteria that causes acne and reduces the inflammation
which we all dread.

Organic Roman Chamomile:

Chamomile is well known to
induce relaxation and tranquilization. It is an
anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-itching agent and helps
soothe and repair the skin. It is also great for skin with
acne or sensitive skin.
Both single and double flowers are used in
medicine. It is considered that the curative properties of the
single, wild Chamomile are the more powerful, as the chief medical
virtue of the plant lies in the central disk of yellow florets, and
in the cultivated double form the white florets of the ray are
multiplied, while the yellow centre diminishes. The powerful alkali
contained to so much greater extent in the single flowers is,
however, liable to destroy the coating of the stomach and bowels,
and it is doubtless for this reason that the British Pharmacopceia
directs that the 'official' dried Chamomile flowers shall be those
of the double, cultivated variety.
Aloe Vera:

Aloe is used
to counteract infection and promote healing. Aloe vera solutions
for acne have been proven to help those who suffer with skin
problems improve their condition and promote healing of scar tissue
formed by excessive swelling and inflammation. Aloe vera is a gel
that is extracted from the inner portion of the aloe vera plant, and
has been used for centuries for many different ailments. These
natural remedies were used by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese as
many as 5,000 years ago. The aloe vera gel for acne products used
now have been used in the past for the healing of skin damaged by
burns and for intestinal problems and is commonly known for it's
medicinal components.
This treatment is an all natural substance. The gel-like material
found inside the plant consists of gibberellin and polysaccharides,
which stimulate the skin and help with healing infected areas. The
ingredients can greatly reduce swelling and inflammation surrounding
the blemish. The gel also contains antibiotics, coagulating agents,
pain inhibitors, and astringent materials. Aloe vera gel for acne
stimulates new cell growth, increasing the skin's ability to heal
scarred tissues on the face. Research shows us there are five
natural occurring anti-inflammatory agents that exist along with
growth factors located in the plant. They work together quickly to
relieve pain sensations, reverse scarring and speed healing
miraculously!
Tea Tree:
A
study was performed with a single-blind randomized clinical trial on 124
patients to evaluate
the efficacy and skin tolerance of 5% Tea Tree Oil Gel in the treatment
of mild to moderate acne when compared with 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion.
The results of this study showed that both Tea Tree Oil and 5% benzoyl
peroxide had a significant effect in ameliorating the patients Acne by
reducing the number of inflamed and non-inflamed lesions (acne).
Encouragingly, fewer side effects were experienced by patients treated
with Tea Tree Oil. Tea tree oil contains a constituent called
terpinen-4-ol that is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree
oil's antimicrobial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, it
has been proposed that applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions may
kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is
involved in causing acne. Some people use tea tree oil because
they find benzoyl peroxide too harsh on the skin. In a study comparing
tea tree oil gel to benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil had fewer side
effects than the benzoyl peroxide, which was associated with itching,
burning, stinging, and dryness.
Bilberry:
Traditionally the leaves have been used for astringent, tonic,
anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic qualities. Studies have shown that the
plant has plenty of antioxidant activity and have been used in various
herbal combinations as a treatment for diabetes. The effectiveness of
the fruit extracts was linked to a group of compounds called "anthocyanosides."
Like most herbal medicines, positive effects obtained from the plant are
not necessarily attributed to only one chemical component. In addition
to anthocyanocides, bilberry fruits contain tannins (up to 7 percent) as
well as several alkaloids including myrtine and epimyrtine. At least
twelve different phenolic acids have been identified from the fruits
along with three glycosides of quercetin, including quercitrin,
isoquercitrin, and hyperoside. All of these components, in one way or
another, could help to contribute to bilberry's beneficial effects on
acne!
Organic Rooibos Tea:
When Annique first made this discovery, it was impossible
for her to know the many amazing health benefits Rooibos tea can
provide. Throughout many years of rigorous scientific investigation,
many benefits have surfaced and more are sure to follow. Foremost,
Rooibos tea has been proven to contain many flavinoids, free-radical
fighting antioxidants (similar to Polyphenols which have made Green tea
famous). Even more alluring, unconfirmed studies are showing that these
flavinoids may be up to 50 times more effective than those found in
Green tea. When added to lotions, Rooibos has been shown as an effective
herbal remedy for skin ailments such as eczema and acne.
Pronounced "roy-boss" and
means "red bush" in Afrikaans. Studies have shown this tea is
comparable to green tea in the amounts of polyphenols it contains. It
shows anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and
anti-viral activity. Recently, Japanese scientists have found that
Rooibos tea contains a mimic of the enzyme Super Oxide Dismutase (S.O.D.),
an antioxidant which attacks the free radicals and limits their damaging
effects. Rooibos contains alpha hydroxy acid and zinc for healthy,
smooth skin.
Organic Lavender:
The essential oil of lavender has antiseptic and
anti-inflammatory properties. It was used in hospitals during WWI to
disinfect floors, walls and other surfaces. Lavender is
soporific, and added to
bath water or sprinkled on pillows aids relaxation and sleep.
An infusion of lavender is claimed to soothe and
heal acne. Bunches of lavender are also said to ward off insects. If
applied to the temples, lavender oil is said to soothe headaches.
Lavender is frequently used as an aid to sleep and relaxation: Seeds
and flowers of the plant are added to pillows, and an
infusion of three
flowerheads added to a cup of boiling water are recommended as a
soothing and relaxing bedtime drink.
Lavender oil (or extract of
Lavender) is claimed to heal
acne when used diluted 1:10
with water, Tea
Tree, or
witch hazel; it is also
used in the treatment of skin burns and inflammatory conditions (it
is a traditional treatment for these in
Iran).
Vitamin B-12:
B Vitamins are unique. The B Vitamins include many different vitamins
that are all clumped together both in their name and usually in how they
are taken. B Vitamin supplements almost always come in a B Complex form
due to the fact that each B Vitamin has its own benefits to the body. In
fact, those considering using supplements to fight their acne should
definitely go with B Complex vitamins since not only to they help with
acne but also simply due to all the other positive effects they have in
maintaining a healthy body. In actuality, the B Vitamins are more like
"super-vitamins" due to their many uses.
Since each B Vitamin contributes in a variety of ways to the fight
against acne, this article will discuss each different B Vitamin that is
involved in helping to maintain clear, healthy skin. Arguably the best
aspect of these B Vitamins is that there are so many, they are almost
always taken in conjunction, and they have so many uses in the body
besides fighting acne and keeping skin nice and clean. It basically
works in conjunction with other vitamins and enhances their effects and
helps them to better maintain healthy, clear skin. On its own, also
helps to increase energy and helps to maintain healthy nerve cells.

Witch Hazel:
Green
tea is used by the Chinese as a traditional medicine to treat many
ailments
including acne and to improve general well-being. But does it provide an
effective herbal alternative to modern medication? The answer seems to
be 'Yes'. There are only two herbal treatments that are known to be
effective in treating acne and green tea is one of them. In a recent
study by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D. a green tea cream was trailed against a
4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people suffering with moderate to severe
acne. The results from this research study showed that green tea was
just as good in treating acne as the benzoyl peroxide. But benzoyl
peroxide dries out skin causing itching or allergic reactions. Unlike
green tea that has the added advantages of natural anti-bacterial
properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate which
is 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free
radicals.Green tea also helps to reduce inflammation, hormonal activity
and aids in detoxification - which is all good news for acne sufferers.

Black Willowbark:
Willow
bark contains compounds
called phenolic glycoside esters. Intestinal micro-organisms
transform these compounds to saligenin, which is oxidized in
the liver and blood, producing salicylic acid. It has
pain-relieving effects like aspirin, but with fewer side
effects. Pain is reduced by inhibition of prostaglandin
synthesis in sensory nerves.
The use of willow bark dates back to the time of Hippocrates
(400 BC) when patients were advised to chew on the bark to
reduce fever and inflammation. Willow bark has been used
throughout the centuries in China and Europe, and continues
to be used by herbalists today for the treatment of acne,
and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. Black willow,
have been shown to have the same beneficial effects. Willow
bark's most important medicinal qualities are its ability to
ease pain and reduce inflammation. In fact, it was from
salicylic acid, one of the ingredients in willow bark, that
aspirin was originally synthesized. Studies have identified
several other components of willow bark which have
antioxidant, fever-reducing, acne reducing, antiseptic, and
immune-boosting effects!

Shea:
Shea Butter has been used for centuries in Africa to keep skin healthy
and beautiful. Shea Butter's almost magical effects are due to the fact
that it has both a high moisturizing fraction and an extraordinarily
high healing fraction. Shea butter is known especially for its cosmetic
properties as a moisturizer and emollient. It is also a known
anti-inflammatory agent.
Shea
butter can be effective at treating the following conditions: acne, acne
scars, eczema, burns, rashes, severely dry skin, blemishes, dark spots,
skin discolorations, chapped lips, stretchmarks, wrinkles and in
lessening the irritation of psoriasis. Shea butter provides natural UV
sun protection although the level of protection is extremely variable,
ranging from none at all to approximately SPF3 so should not be relied
on. Shea butter absorbs rapidly into the skin without feeling greasy.

Rosemary:
Rosemary is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant evergreen needle-like
leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region and in Uruguay.
Rosemary has been found to be a stimulant and mild analgesic, and has
been used to treat headaches, poor circulation, and many ailments for
which stimulants are prescribed. It can be used as a disinfectant, as a
acne treatment. Rosemary is known for its rich antioxidant & antiseptic
properties!

Vitamin E:
Vitamin E is one of those vitamins that does not cause any disease by
it’s deficiency in the body, but even a small amount of this vitamin is
hugely beneficial for the immune system as it’s strong anti-oxidant
properties protect any part of the body which might be susceptible to
oxidative damage. Vitamin E protects cell membrane from damage. It helps
to maintain healthy skin by eliminating harmful free radicals generated
during cellular metabolism, with its antioxidant properties. Studies
have shown that vitamin E may help skin recover from acne scarring and
reduce the appearance of scars left by acne.
Vitamin E works along with other antioxidant nutrients. These
include selenium, vitamin C, B-carotene and others to prevent free
radicals, peroxides and other potential harmful substances. Because
of their high oxygen tension, red blood cells are particularly
susceptible to oxidative damage. Vitamin E protects these cells from
oxidative damage.
Vitamin E regulates the retinol level in humans. Retinol, commonly
known as vitamin A, is essential for healthy skin, mucous membranes
and proper vision. Decreases in retinol levels cause the oxidation
of unsaturated fatty acids in the cell, which causes toxic effects
in the cell. Vitamin E curbs this oxidation process and restores
normal levels of retinal. The issue of acne in both men and women is
substantially decreased with vitamin E treatment!
